Very common questions

Why 252 grams?

Two hundred and fifty-two grams is absolutely not a coincidence! This is the essence of our passion for challenging the ubiquitous status quo. And yet you can do things differently, you can do things better! 252 is a more symmetrical number. In numerology, it comes down to 9, whatever that means. It’s perfectly divisible by 6, so it gives you zero leftovers at the bottom of the jar (if you’re one of those who measures grammage every two decimal zeros…). And in the end, it’s just 2 grams more!

What is the jar made of?

The coffee is packed in a brown jar made of PET, 100% recyclable or reusable at home. And if you’re now thinking ” oh no, plastic!”, keep in mind that standard coffee packaging is also made of plastic (and several other materials, making it often more difficult to recycle).

How do you buy your coffees for your coffee shop?

When setting up your account, indicate that you are a coffee shop. After verification, we will assign you a discount for the gastro and you will see new prices, delivery and payment methods. We also accept orders directly via email, phone, messenger, Instagram, verbally, or any form that is convenient for you – the gastro is in constant contact with us! 👌🏻

But why plastic?

Plastic isn’t as scary as it’s painted – product life cycle studies clearly show that plastic packaging, compared to its glass counterparts, has a lower (or similar) environmental impact (and it’s 40 times lighter, by the way!).* So you don’t have to wallow in plastic depression, just remember to put the jar in the right container or find a creative way to give it a new role!

*How does this happen? PET is about 40 times lighter than glass, so its transportation uses less energy. Secondly, glass is made (but also recycled) at extremely high (metallurgical!) temperatures, which require significant energy, but also water consumption. Everything taken together, including how often we recycle plastic and glass, yielded similar results in the study.

PS. We manufactured the jars in Poland, so we minimized our carbon footprint.

Is there an Elixir?

With us it is always there! And in Coffeedesk it varies, sometimes the entire supply will be swept away on the stump at an unpredictable rate. That’ s why the Is Elixir website was created , to make the hunt for this rarity easier! 🙂

Is there a discount?

The price of each coffee depends directly on how much the green bean cost, which shapes its market value. We are very respectful of the farmers’ work, which is why we do not practice promos on coffee, it is worth exactly what we have priced it at.

Is it possible to visit you somewhere?

We created a heretical place for ourselves in Warsaw’s Chomiczówka district. We don’t have a cafe or smoking room there, and we don’t frequent the place at regular hours. Therefore, if you want to visit us, we need to arrange a specific date – get back to us via email or social media.

Have you thought about glass jars?

Yes, we were thinking of glass! It was even our first idea 🙂 However, we quickly found glass to be very problematic: it’s heavier (one jar of coffee would weigh a total of 0.7 kg!), more expensive (like 10 times), breakable (and who would want to get a shipment with a mixture of beans and glass particles) and, note, has the same or greater (sic!) environmental impact! A plastic jar turns out to be quite eco-friendly, just remember to put it in the right container, or find a creative way to use it at home.

Infrequent questions

Why doesn’t the packaging have a valve?

The vent helps standard soft packaging, because by giving carbon dioxide to the outside, it protects packages from exploding. It doesn’t help the coffee in any way, and some believe it may even get in the way, which is why some roasters have decided to create swell-resistant packaging without a valve. The jar all the more does not need it, because it simply does not let air through, well, and it does not explode 🙂

How long is coffee good from roasting?

According to the European Union – two years. According to our label, 6 months and 66 days. In practice, the coffee is drinkable for a very long time, but it loses flavor and aroma. Our tests show that the loss is totally insignificant in the case of jars, which are very airtight and resealable (in the sense that you screw them on every time and have the same airtight package as before you opened them, compared to packages with a string or those without any closure).

Are the jars reusable?

You can use the jars in any way you want – keep various treasures and secrets in them, set out plants, hold spices, or build a fortress out of them for the kids! On the other hand, we officially cannot refill the same jar because PET jars cannot be scalded. By the same token, we do not recommend putting them in the dishwasher!

Does the jar protect the coffee from weathering?

Yes! They do it much better than standard coffee packs. Our empirical studies show that no air escapes from the jar to the outside or gets inside, and the resealing of the jar is as strong as the original one.

Unanswered questions

What are the flavor notes in your coffees?

Mind you, the hard truth: coffee has no objective, universal, specific flavor notes. Each of us has different credentials, associations, but also sensory abilities. We see flavor as a ratio of fruitiness, florality and sweetness characteristic of chocolate or caramel, and this is how we describe our coffees.

What kind of coffee is best?

The kind you like best. Seriously. This is not about anything else.

How many clicks?

We don’t know, but it’s so serious. The truth is, as much as you like. Because coffees are not ripened on the bushes with the idea that they will grind well on the twenty-fourth click on the comestibles. How finely you grind is just a matter of what level of coffee extraction you prefer, so we do not assign different values to specific beans. Anyway, we like to grind fairly finely, which allows you to squeeze out everything in the coffee, and with coffees ≥86points there is nothing to hide.

What recipe?

We don’t brew coffee from recipes and don’t believe in using them. In the same way as the lady in the vegetable shop, we do not ask how many minutes to boil potatoes of the Irys variety. We prefer to explore coffee in different ways and play with ways of brewing, in a relaxed way, without the pinch of seconds and nanograms.
